Smugglers Rest is a traditional seaside cottage overlooking Coverack’s picturesque harbour, with sea views from both bedrooms. The cosy, open-plan ground floor features beamed ceilings and a woodburner, perfect for relaxing evenings in after a day by the sea. Outside, you can choose between a small seating area at the front, ideal for watching the harbour activity, or a patio garden at the rear, which looks out across the bay behind the cottage, an idyllic spot for al fresco meals. For walkers, the South West Coast Path runs right past the back gate, offering easy access to miles of breathtaking coastal scenery.
Nestled on the eastern edge of the Lizard Peninsula, Coverack is a charming coastal village known for its whitewashed cottages and occasional thatched roofs scattered along a sweeping, crescent-shaped bay. At one end of the sandy beach, a traditional harbour provides a safe haven for small fishing boats, while nearby cafés and shops stock all the seaside essentials, think buckets, spades, and fishing nets, for a classic day on the beach.
A traditional stable door opens from the road into the open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area. The living space includes two comfortable sofas, a TV with Freesat and DVD player, a woodburner, and a bookshelf to help you unwind. The kitchen is equipped with an electric cooker with double oven and 4-ring hob, under-counter fridge, freestanding freezer, microwave, kettle, and toaster. A utility cupboard houses a dishwasher and washer-dryer. The dining area features a table with four chairs, positioned beside the original inglenook fireplace, now home to a cosy sofa making it an inviting space to chat while meals are prepared.
The split-level staircase includes a middle landing with a door to the rear garden. Upstairs, you’ll find two bedrooms and a family bathroom.
Bedroom one is a double room with harbour and sea views, furnished with a double bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers, and a window seat for soaking in the scenery. Bedroom two has twin beds, also with sea views, along with a chest of drawers and built-in cupboards. The family bathroom includes a bath with electric shower over, handbasin, toilet, and heated towel rail.
Outdoor space:
At the front of the cottage, just across the road, is a small walled and gated seating area with a table and chairs, perfect for watching the boats in the harbour and taking in the sea air. Please note that children must be supervised here due to the proximity to the road and a drop beyond the wall.
To the rear, a patio garden offers a more private space with uninterrupted views across the bay, ideal for outdoor dining, with a picnic bench provided. Just beyond the back gate is the South West Coast Path, and down the slope, you’ll find a small children’s play area with swings and a slide. The rear garden is accessed via some steps up from the cottage. There is a low wall to mark the boundary at the rear but it is not fully enclosed - children and dogs must be supervised.
Parking:
Public car parks are available at either end of the village, along with some on-road parking spots throughout. Between 1st June and 31st August, yellow line parking is restricted from 10:00am to 6:00pm, but may be used overnight and at other times of year - please check local signage for details.
Dogs:
This property will accept a dog by prior arrangement at £30 per week. Please note however that the garden is not enclosed. Dogs must be kept under control due to the proximity to the coast and the road.
Please note:
Smugglers Rest is a traditional Cornish cottage dating back several centuries and retains many original features, including lower-than-average ceiling beams on the ground floor. Taller guests (over 6’) should take care when moving beneath beams and through doorways. Upstairs, the door frames are also lower than modern standards, so caution is advised when moving between rooms.
