One of England’s most southerly houses, this fabulous Arts and Crafts villa sleeps up to six and sits in an acre of grounds on a front line cliff top, some 300 ft above sea level with breath-taking 180 degrees panoramic views of the sea and bay. The garden gate opens onto the coastal path, offering miles of stunning circular walks. Just three hundred yards from the gate, along the coastal path lies the small sandy beach of Housel Bay and when exposed at low tide, is ideal for guests to enjoy right at their doorstep.
The Crag offers home from home comfort all year round, lovingly restored and retaining the original features of the hall mosaic floor and stain glass hall windows. The spectacular views from the principal rooms, front bedrooms and outside patio are some of the most iconic in Cornwall, looking across the bay to the Lighthouse and the sea beyond. Huge picture windows and patio doors facing south to the sea allow maximum light and optimise the sea views to enjoy a summer evening or watch the Atlantic storms below in the winter, curled up by the log fire.
The house is the last one before the sea on a 'no through road' in a hamlet of fifteen houses and although secluded, is not isolated, with the Lizard village only half a mile away with a small selection of food shops, cafes and pubs - not forgetting Ann’s famous pasty shop. Next door, below the house, is an exclusive family run hotel offering superb meals and afternoon teas, their hospitality is extended to guests of The Crag.

The gravel driveway wraps around to the front of the house and offers ample parking. Entered via the side porch, into the ground floor hallway where you're greeted by the original mosaic floor. At the front of the house is the open-plan living and dining room, the windows look out across the garden where the lawn gives way to the sea. In the living area there are comfortable sofas a smart TV and a woodburner, whilst the dining area offers a table with seating for eight guests.
The kitchen is fitted with bespoke blue oak units and is equipped with an electric double oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave, and a breakfast table completes this space. Further utility area off the kitchen provides a washing machine and tumble dryer as well as a covered area to hang wet suits and beachwear. Also on the ground floor is a shower room with a spacious shower enclosure, a toilet and handbasin.
Upstairs are four bedrooms and the family bathroom, please note that only three of the rooms will be made available and one of the twin rooms will be closed off (please contact us if alternative bed arrangements are required). The master bedroom features a 6' super king-size bed, balcony and sea views, whilst the en suite is compact but offers a shower, toilet and handbasin. Bedroom two is also at the front of the house with sea views, a 5' king-size bed and a full complement of storage. Bedroom three is a twin room with two single beds, suitable for either one adult/teenager or two children. The family bathroom has a bath with shower overhead, handbasin and a toilet.
Outside, there are extensive patio areas facing the sea with outdoor dining for eight and several sun loungers. Two picnic tables are positioned at the bottom of the garden so you can relax or dine even closer to the smells and sounds of the sea with views over the bay.
Sorry, no infants. Children over three years of age welcome. Due to its location and proximity to the sea, children must be supervised at all times. There is no stair gate at the property. Regrettably pets and fireworks are not permitted. Rental includes bedlinen and towels. Starter basket of logs for the woodburner are supplied between October and April.
Lizard Lighthouse marks the furthest southerly point of mainland UK and as a working lighthouse its fog signal may be audible inside the property during inclement weather, depending on the wind direction. You may also detect the flash, though the front facing bedrooms are equipped with blinds and curtains to minimise this. Please ask us before booking if you are at all concerned as deposits are not refundable.
