'Skippers Retreat' is a wonderful example of Mevagissey's traditional fisherman's cottages, over 200 years old and right in the heart of this popular fishing village, just 80 paces from the harbour! Situated on a footpath with no passing traffic but right by the shops and pubs that brim with life on a warm sunny day. You'll be spoilt for choice with the two historic pubs, bakeries, fish & chip shops, cafes and ice cream parlours all within a minutes easy walk.
Mevagissey's harbour is a working fishing port where you can watch the fishing boats come and go. Aside from the shops and eateries, there's a small aquarium and also a museum that depicts life in the village over the years. The South West Coast Path passes through as well and can be easily accessed from the cottage. Neighbouring Portmellon is also very pretty and it's pub sits right next to the beach and nearby Pentewan has a larger sandy beach and lots of amenities for visitors to the area.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan are just a few minutes away by car, or there's a cycle/walking route from Mevagissey if you wanted to make more of a day out to this well known beauty spot. A little further afield is the Eden Project, an eco attraction which is home to the world's largest indoor rainforest. The nearby town of St Austell has a range of supermarkets.
Entered into the kitchen diner at the ground floor. The fitted kitchen looks splendid alongside the features of this fisherman's cottage, there's a beamed ceiling, deep set windows and traditional stone floor. Equipped with an electric oven with 4-ring hob and extractor over, a fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, kettle and 4-slice toaster. Dining table with chairs and some space for hanging beach wear. Also on the ground floor is a compact WC with toilet, handbasin and heated towel rail.
Upstairs to the spacious first floor living room, where dual aspect windows fill this room with natural light. There's a smart TV, two sofas offering comfortable seating for four, an electric imitation fire and a book shelf with a range of books, DVDs and local info.
A second staircase leads to the second floor bedrooms and bathroom. The master bedroom has a king- size bed, bedside table with wall mounted lamps, a double wardrobe and a chest of drawers. The twin room has two single beds with a chest of drawers and some wall hooks for hanging items. Tiled family bathroom with mixer shower over bath, a toilet, handbasin and heated towel rail.
Due to the nature of Mevagissey, with its historic narrow winding streets, regrettably there is no parking in the immediate area. There are two nearby pay and display car parks at The Willow and Sunny Corner which is a 5 minute level walk. The Willow is staffed in the summer season and offers week-long tickets for visitors, they also offer EV charging and have 'JustPark' which can be accessed remotely from your smartphone. The village is well served with buses and taxi services are abundant if you wanted to park the car and leave it. St Austell is also on the mainline for trains.
