The Boathouse

The Boathouse occupies a truly special position at Church Cove, perched on a rocky shelf overlooking the small inlet with wonderful views out to sea. Built in 1887 as the original Church Cove lifeboat house, this Grade II listed building is now a characterful holiday home for four, and remains the last property before the sea. Step outside and you're immediately immersed in this beautiful corner of the Lizard Peninsula, where local fishing boats still use the slipway and the South West Coast Path climbs away along the cliffs in either direction.

Lizard village is within walking distance, with a choice of pubs, cafés, shops and places to eat, while some of the peninsula's best-known beauty spots, including Lizard Point, Housel Bay, Kynance Cove and Cadgwith, can all be explored nearby. For walkers in particular, it's difficult to imagine a better starting point, with the coast path quite literally on the doorstep.

From the residents' parking area, steps lead down towards the cove and the small patio sitting area outside The Boathouse. With the sea immediately beyond, this is a wonderful spot to sit with a morning coffee, watch the activity around the cove or simply enjoy the ever-changing coastal view.

A traditional stable door opens into the kitchen and dining area, equipped with an electric cooker, microwave and fridge/freezer, together with a dining table and chairs. Also on this level is the shower room, which has a large tiled shower enclosure with electric shower, toilet and handbasin.

A short flight of steep stairs leads to the first-floor sitting room, where the history and character of the building really come through. The beamed ceiling and low-level windows reflect the unusual proportions of the former lifeboat house, with the windows looking directly across the cove and out to sea. The room is comfortably furnished with easy chairs, a dining table and chairs, TV and Blu-ray player.

The two bedrooms are accessed from opposite ends of the sitting room, each reached by four steep steps and both retaining characterful sloping, open-beamed ceilings. One bedroom has a double bed, while the second is furnished with two single beds.

Parking for one car is usually available in the nearby residents' car park. From Church Cove, it's an uphill walk into Lizard village, but only a relatively short one, and of course the return journey is considerably easier!

Rental includes WiFi, night storage heating and bed linen. A telephone is provided for incoming calls only.

Please note: The Boathouse is a historic building in an unusual coastal position and retains some quirky features, including steep internal stairs, additional steps into both bedrooms and sloping ceilings. There are also steps between the parking area and the property. For these reasons, The Boathouse is not suitable for guests with restricted mobility, and children must be closely supervised.
