Gweek Lodge

Gweek Lodge offers a unique and characterful retreat, perfect for couples seeking a romantic escape, but equally well suited to a small family or two friends travelling together. Packed full of little touches of luxury and extra treats, this Grade II listed cottage was originally one of two thatched gatehouses to the historic Trelowarren Estate, and is one of the most photographed buildings in the area. Only a few yards from the head of the Helford River, and just five minutes’ walk from the local shop and the famous Black Swan public house, Gweek Lodge is ideally located for exploring Helford, The Lizard, and the many nearby coast and countryside walks that both guests and four-legged friends will enjoy.

You enter through the original arched doorway into a small lobby with a hallstand for coats, boots and umbrellas. To the right, the handcrafted kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven, 4-ring hob with extractor over, microwave, and fridge with freezer compartment. A dining table with four chairs sits at one end of the room. In the small inglenook, where the original fireplace once stood, you’ll now find a state-of-the-art Spatherm double-sided wood burner, which brings warmth and charm to the whole cottage, making it a welcoming space all year round.

To the left, the cosy lounge is tastefully furnished with a two-seat sofa and armchair arranged around the wood burner. There is an LCD TV with Freeview, plus Bluetooth, WiFi, and DAB radio equipment for music and entertainment.

The ground floor bathroom is generously sized for the property, and includes a bath with Grohe electric shower over, shaver socket, and luxury towels and robes, along with a few thoughtful indulgences.

A winding staircase leads from the lounge up to the bedroom and adjoining dressing room. The bedroom features a double bed, bedside tables with lamps, and a double wardrobe. The dressing room includes additional storage and a feature deep-set window seat, perfect for reading, relaxing or enjoying a morning cup of tea.

Also in the dressing room is a convertible occasional chair that transforms into a single bed. This offers flexible sleeping arrangements, ideal for a child or for two adults who would prefer separate beds. A supplement of £50 applies for the use of the extra bed. If used for a child in addition to two adults, a further supplement of £50 is required. These options can be selected when booking under the ‘Extras’ section.

Outside, there is off-road parking for one car, and a charming terraced cottage garden to the side. With a decked area, table and chairs, garden bench and custom table, it’s a peaceful suntrap, ideal for lazy afternoons or a relaxed al fresco meal. The garden is also a lovely space for your dog to enjoy, though owners are advised to supervise as it may not be fully secure for all breeds.

The owners of Gweek Lodge take pride in spoiling their guests with thoughtful touches throughout the property. Returning guests and those booking longer stays may even find a few extra surprises. The visitors' book is testament to their care and attention.

Heating is provided by the wood burner, with all firelighters, kindling and logs supplied at no extra cost. Guests are kindly asked to read the provided instructions before use. Storage heaters provide backup heating, and an electric blanket is also fitted to the bed for added comfort.

One dog is welcome by prior arrangement at £25 per week. With scenic river walks just moments away and pet-friendly local pubs nearby, it’s a wonderful location for dog lovers. While the garden is hedged and fenced, it may not be secure for all dogs, so supervision is advised.

Rental includes bed linen, towels, WiFi, electricity, and heating. Strictly no smoking.
