Crantock Beach is a beautiful stretch of golden sand on Cornwall's north coast, just a short distance from Newquay. Backed by rolling dunes and framed by rugged headlands, this expansive beach enjoys a wonderfully unspoilt setting, making it a popular destination for families, surfers and those looking to enjoy Cornwall's spectacular coastline.
The beach sits at the mouth of the River Gannel, where the tidal estuary meets the Atlantic Ocean. At low tide, a vast expanse of sand is revealed, providing plenty of space for beach games, relaxing and exploring. The beach is also popular for surfing and other watersports, although visitors should take particular care around the river mouth, where strong tidal currents can be dangerous.
The surrounding dunes and South West Coast Path offer beautiful walking opportunities, with scenic routes towards West Pentire and neighbouring Porth Joke, also known locally as Polly Joke. The nearby village of Crantock, with its traditional cottages and village pub, adds to the area's relaxed Cornish charm.
Managed by the National Trust, Crantock Beach has a nearby car park, toilets and refreshments available. Dogs are welcome throughout the year, making it a particularly appealing choice for visitors holidaying with their four-legged companions.
