Gwithian Towans Beach
Hayle
Gwithian Towans forms part of the magnificent sweep of sand around St Ives Bay, with extensive dunes behind the beach and views towards Godrevy Lighthouse. At lower tides, the sands stretch for miles along the bay, connecting Gwithian with neighbouring beaches and providing plenty of space for walking, surfing and days by the sea.
Exposed to Atlantic swell, Gwithian is particularly popular with surfers and bodyboarders, while the wide sandy beach and rock pools revealed by the falling tide offer plenty to explore. Behind the beach, the towans - the Cornish name for sand dunes - create a distinctive landscape rich in coastal wildlife.
The South West Coast Path follows the shoreline towards Godrevy and Hayle, with excellent views across St Ives Bay. Godrevy Island and its lighthouse provide one of the most recognisable landmarks along this stretch of coast.
Parking, toilets and refreshments are available close to the beach. With its combination of extensive sands, dunes, surfing and spectacular coastal scenery, Gwithian Towans is one of the highlights of St Ives Bay.
