Pedn Vounder Beach
Porthcurno
Pedn Vounder is a spectacular sandy cove on the Penwith coast, tucked beneath the cliffs between Porthcurno and Logan Rock. With pale sand, clear turquoise water and dramatic granite surroundings, it has become one of Cornwall's most photographed beaches.
The beach is reached from the South West Coast Path and there is no road access. The final descent is exceptionally steep and involves scrambling over rocks, making Pedn Vounder unsuitable for anyone uncertain of their footing and considerably more challenging to reach than neighbouring Porthcurno.
Tides are particularly important here. Much of the beach disappears beneath the water at high tide and visitors can become cut off, so tide times and sea conditions should always be checked before attempting a visit. There are no lifeguards or facilities at the beach.
For experienced walkers comfortable with the difficult access, Pedn Vounder offers extraordinary views of this rugged stretch of the Penwith coastline. For an easier way to enjoy the area, nearby Porthcurno provides a beautiful sandy beach with parking and facilities close by.
