St Ives Harbour Beach lies at the heart of the town, surrounded by the historic harbour, colourful fishing boats and the narrow streets of central St Ives. At lower tides, a sandy beach is revealed inside the harbour, providing a wonderfully atmospheric place to enjoy the waterfront and watch the activity around the bay.
Sheltered by the harbour walls, the beach has a very different character from the Atlantic-facing Porthmeor Beach nearby. Fishing and pleasure boats remain an important part of the scene, while the harbour itself is lined with cafés, restaurants, galleries and shops.
St Ives' long association with artists adds another dimension to a visit, with Tate St Ives, the Barbara Hepworth Museum and numerous independent galleries all within walking distance. The South West Coast Path also passes through the town, linking the harbour with Porthgwidden and Porthmeor in one direction and Porthminster in the other.
With the facilities of St Ives immediately on hand, Harbour Beach is less about escaping the town and more about enjoying one of Cornwall's most distinctive and picturesque waterfront settings.
